How do you decide to fund my idea?

We make fast, independent investment decisions in-house.

While each process is tailored to the opportunity, it typically starts with an initial meeting, followed by a deeper discussion with one or two members of our investment team. If needed, we continue with follow-up meetings and due diligence.

If there is mutual interest, selected founders are invited to present to our Investment Committee, where we make our final decision.

If both sides come well prepared and do their homework, the process can move very quickly.

Which role do you play in a typical round?

Depending on the requirements, we act as lead, co-lead, or co-investor. We involve private investors in our financing rounds from the beginning.

How experienced is the team?

Our team consists of experienced investment managers who have invested in over 270 startups across various industries. We support our founders through both growth and difficult phases, leveraging our experience from pre seed stage to exit.

Is IBB Ventures the right fund for me?

IBB Ventures is the right partner for founding teams based in Berlin who are looking for more than just capital. As the only early-stage investor exclusively focused on Berlin, we combine deep local expertise with long-term commitment.

Unlike traditional VC funds, our goal is not to maximise short-term returns for LPs. Instead, we reinvest our returns into new funds — backing the next generation of Berlin-based founders and continuously strengthening the city’s startup ecosystem.

How do you show up as an investor?

Close partnerships matter — especially early on. We partner with founders at eye level, bringing decades of experience, deep industry expertise, and a strong network. From pre-seed to exit, we move fast and operate with radical transparency.

Where does the funding come from?

We are backed by the State of Berlin, IBB, and the European Union to boost Berlin’s startup landscape. Each investment is financed 50% by IBB and the State of Berlin, and 50% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Do you invest pre-product?

Rarely. We typically require a product and early signs of product-market fit before investing. We want to be able to identify the right timing, and uncover an attractive market opportunity before we invest. 

However, in some cases, we have invested based on just a PowerPoint presentation before. In those cases, we already knew someone from the founding team very well.

Will you invest in follow-up financing rounds?

Yes. We reserve a significant portion of our fund for follow-on investments to help our portfolio companies grow. Our total investment can reach € 4M, or up to € 6M in individual cases, depending on the fund and capital requirements.
